Abstract

Background: Atherosclerosis is the major health problem worldwide especially among developed and industrializing countries.Various risk factors of atherosclerosis needs to be studied for a preventive measure. Major risk factors of atheroslerosis in Coronary heart disease (CHD), ischemic stroke (IS), and peripheral arterial disease (PAD) remain absent in Dr. Kariadi Central Hospital Semarang. Objective: This study was aimed to know the major risk factors difference among various atherosclerosis diseases (coronary heart disease, ischemic stroke, and peripheral arterial disease) in Dr. Kariadi Central Hospital Semarang. Methode: This is a cross sectional study held by collecting data from medical record of CHD, IS, and PAD diagnosed patient in dr. Kariadi Central Hospital Semarang from January the 1st 2011 to December the 31st 2011. There were 300 samples consisting of 100 CHD patients, 100 IS patients, and 100 PAD patients. Risk factors, analyze in this study, were age, sex, smoking status, dyslipidemia status, hypertension status, and diabetes mellitus status. Statistical analysis was done using chi - square, prevalence ratio, and logistic regression by SPSS for Windows 17.0. Result: Multivariat analysis showed that major risk factors related to CHD incidence were age (OR= 3,53; 95% CI=1,461-8,541) and sex (OR=3,06; 95%CI=1,653-5,682). Major risk factor related to IS incidence was hypertension (OR=6,66; 95%CI=0,907-15,276). Major risk factor related to PAD was DM (OR=22,98; 95%CI=7,874-67,044). Conclusion: There were different major risk factors among various atheroscelrosis diseases. Keyword: major risk factor, coronary heart disease, ischemic stroke, peripheral arterial disease.
