Abstract

Background: AIDS is a worldwide endemic disease. The number of teenagers who are suffered from AIDS is significantly high. The prevention of HIV/AIDS is closely related to the causes of contagion, therefore the awarness of HIV/AIDS is extremely important. Nowadays, the wide array of media is greatly involved in people’s awareness. In the ends, this study wants to know the correlation beetween various of mass media and the accessibility of mass media with the level of HIV/AIDS knowledge among teenagers, particularly high school students. Methods: The design of this study was observational and cross sectional. The study was conducted in Mei 2011. Sampling methods was simple random sampling technique. The sample were the students of SMA Negeri 4 Semarang and it comprised of 89 students who fulfilled the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data collected through interview guide which have filled in by students in their class. Data was processed by Spearman correlation test and chi square test with SPSS for windows 15. Result: This study found that there was correlation between various of mass media with level of HIV/AIDS knowledge among high school students using Spearman correlation test (p=0.000, p=0.636). This study also found that there was correlation between the accessibility of mass media with level of HIV/AIDS knowledge among high school students using chi square test (significant, p=0.01). Conclusion: There was a significant correlation beetwen various of mass media and the accessibility of mass media with the level of HIV/AIDS knowledge among high school students.
