ANALISIS PENGARUH GURAH PADA PENDERITA SINUSITIS KRONIK TERHADAP ANGKA KEKAMBUHAN

Abstract

Background: Gurah is one of many traditional therapy to treat chronic sinusitis. Exacerbation could happened in chronic sinusitis patient, which can make the simptoms became worsen and decrease the quality of life of the patient. In this study senggugu root extract is used as gurah ingredient which contains tanin that according to previous studies serve as an antiseptic agents. Aim: This study aim was to know the different of the exarcebation rate between gurah chronic sinusitis patient and non gurah chronic sinusitis patient. Methode: The design of the study was observational with pre and post controlled group. Sample of this study were 66 patients of chronic sinusitis patients in the Kariadi Hospital Semarang that has been divided randomly in two group, control group and treatment group. Gurah treatments were given to the treatment group. Questionnares were given to both group to value the exacerbation rate. Patients were being observed in 3 months. Analysis of the data was processed by a computer program with difference test with 2x2 tabels and using fisher-exact analysis. S The significance levels were accepted if p < 0,05. Result: In the first month there weren’t any exarcebation in both control group and treatment group. The study continues to the third month. In the control group there were 5 patients that had exarcerbation. In treatment group there weren’t any exarcebation until the third month. Difference test was applied with 2x2 tabels and using chi-square analysis. There was 2 cell with expected count < 5,0 so it had to used altenative fisher-exact analysis. Fisher-exact analysis found significance different(p<0,05) between control group and treatment group at 0,03. Conclusion: There was significant decrease of exacerbation rate from gurah chronic sinusitis patient than non gurah chronic sinusitis patient. Key Word: gurah, chronic sinusitis, exacerbation
