Abstract

Background: Burning Mouth Syndrome (BMS) is defined as chronic orofacial pain condition, whose symptoms are characterized by a feeling of burning pain sensation on the tongue, lips, or may involve the entire oral cavity. Systemic factor, as the secondary etiology of BMS, relating to woman is menopause. Aim : The study aims toknowthe influence of menopausal status (premenopause, perimenopause, and postmenopause) with Burning Mouth Syndrome (BMS). Method :The study is an observationalanalytic using cross sectionalstudy design. The samples were taken with consecutive sampling. Subjects were women aged 40-65 years amounted to 127 respondents, consisting of 40 premenopausal women, 41 perimenopausal women and 46 postmenopausal womenwith minimal sample of 37 respondents.The collected data are status of menopausal subject and status Burning Mouth Syndrome (BMS). Data analysis were performed using SPSS Windows Ver 17.0. Results :The incidence of Burning Mouth Syndrome (BMS) in premenopausal subjects produced p-value 0.337 (OR = 0.405). While The incidence of Burning Mouth Syndrome (BMS) in perimenopausal subjects produced p-value 0,750 (OR=0,675). In women who have menopausal status which is postmenopausal : The incidence of Burning Mouth Syndrome (BMS) has p-value 0,118 (OR=2,728).In the chi square test p value <0.05 was significant and there is a significant influence. So that both the premenopause, perimenopause, and postmenopause there is no significant effect on the incidence of Burning Mouth Syndrome (BMS) because the pvalue > 0.05.
