Abstract
Background: Contact dermatitis is an inflammatory reaction in the skin caused by contact with the skin material. Contact dermatitis can be found on the laundry staff who generally arise due to contact with the material causes when performing tasks such as washing, ironing and packing. Objectives: To know the factors associated with the occurrence of occupational contact dermatitis to laundry workers. Methods: This type of observational analytic study is a cross sectional design. Respondents were drawn by cluster sampling study and obtained 50 laundry workers in the district of East and West Ungaran. The data was taken from interview method using a questionnaire instrument that has tested the validity and reliability. The data obtained in the form of the data characteristics of the respondents, the factors associated with the occurrence of contact dermatitis and clinical data. The data is then analyzed with chi square test / Fisher test. Results: The study showed 50 respondents, 28 respondents had contact dermatitis (56%). The results of statistical analysis obtained the type of work (p = 0.009), frequency of exposure (p = 0.010), history of atopy (p = 0.035), and mechanical factors (p = 0.000), had a significant relationship to the occurrence of occupational contact dermatitis. Meanwhile, sex (p = 0.441), age (p = 0.833), tenure (p = 0.384), use of personal protective equipment / gloves (p = 0.251), no significant association with the occurrence of occupational contact dermatitis. Conclusion: This type of work, frequency of exposure, a history of atopy, presence of mechanical factors, have a meaningful relationship to the occurrence of occupational contact dermatitis in workers of the laundry. Meanwhile, sex, age, tenure, and the use of personal protective equipment / gloves, do not have a meaningful relationship with the occurrence of occupational contact dermatitis in workers of the laundry. Key words: occupational contact dermatitis, types of work, frequency of exposure, a history of atopy, mechanical factors, sex age, tenure, use of personal protective equipment
