Abstract
Greater galingale (Kaempferia galanga L.) is one of the traditional medicinal plants that contain essential oils. The aim lof the research was to determine the optimum conditions for the extraction process of Greater galingale rhizomes the influence of variations in the amount of solvent, extraction temperature, reflux ratio, as well as analyze some physical properties of essential oils are produced. The method used to extract essential oils from the Greater galingale rhizomes using microwave extraction method (Microwave Assisted Extraction) equipped with soxhlet. At this lab performed using a solvent extraction process with water and heating for 1 hour. Changing the variables used are: variations in the solvent (20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, 100%), variations in reaction temperature (75ºC: 80ºC: 85ºC: 90ºC: 100ºC), and variable reflux ratio. The results from the lab showed that the most optimum conditions obtained in 60% solvent use, the operating temperature of 85°C, and reflux ratio to-2. This is evidenced by the yield of each acquisition sequence of: 4.25%, 4.38% and 3.28%. Greater galingale oil volume produced each sequence of: 2 ml; 2.1 ml and 1.6 ml. Key words : Kaempferia galanga, extraction, essential oil, Greater galingale
