Abstract

Abstract Single-parent growth significantly and reach 10% with one fifth of it is single-father. However a lot of attention and research has focused on single-mother than single-father families that small, but growing segment in society when it comes to single-parent research. Single-father not just adapt with his new circumstances but also have to socialize the value of their custom and role. This research was aimed to understand interpersonal communication experience father-daughter within gender-role anticipatory socialization. The type of this research is phenomenological descriptive-qualitative. Some theories that used on this research are based on symbolic interactionism theory by George Herbert Mead, role theory by Beth A. LePoire and social learning theory by Michael Hughes dan Kroehler Carolyn. Researcher has found some new fact. The result of this research found that single-father didn’t just use observational and modeling methods. Researcher found that single-father used also go along method. There are two factors that give influence to socialization process. Personal closeness and the way of thinking. Personal closeness can be reached when father-daughter overstep of adaptation and cohesion that involve contact, positive responses and involvement, meanwhile the way of thinking can be influenced by custom background, education and the range of milieu. Different from judgement that father is authoritarian, single-father more authoritative and democratic. He use discussion to solve problems and give his daughter authority to be decision maker in her life. Single-father doesn’t have explicit border in gender dichotomy that means there isn’t difference between his son and daughter doing domestic duties and the one that have authority in their family after father. Although single-father doesn’t give clear expression of his feeling, he is still give feedback dan saying affection through attitude and involvement with his daughter instrumentally.
