Abstract

ABSTRACT Ku Tunggu Jandamu is a film that presents a young woman problems after she divorce with her husband. This film is quite controversial in Indonesia because of exploiting the actress body, but when viewed as critical, there are some interesting issues to be studied, such as many forms of verbal abuse against widows. The purpose of this study was to explain the symbols or values of verbal abuse against widows contained in film Ku Tunggu Jandamu and reveals the dominant ideology. The effort to answer the problems and research objectives is done by using standpoint theory in critical paradigm as main theories. The method of analysis of this study is using semiotic analysis of Roland Barthes. The results of syntagmatic analysis is Ku Tunggu Jandamu contain 114 number of scenes but there are 10 scenes that clearly displays verbal abuse against widows which is shown on scene number 5, 10, 12, 14, 36, 37, 42, 43, 105, and 111. While the results of paradigmatic analysis is showed verbal abuse against widows manifested in various forms, such as humble self-esteem, vulgar remarks, giving name calling with negative connotation, threats, and yelling. Implications of verbal abuse is the victim of fear, avoiding the social environment, and stress disorder. Abuser coming from the opposite sex and other women. The film featured women as visual pleasure and patriarchy as an ideology which dominates the verbal abuse Keywords: semiotic; film; verbal abuse; widows
