Abstract

Background: Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is one of radiosensitive and chemosensitive type of cancer. The main treatment in nasopharyngeal carcinoma is radiotherapy both with or without chemotherapy. Objective: This study is aimed to examine the two years survival rates of nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients treated with chemoradiotherapy in Dr. Kariadi general hospital. Methods: This research was an analytic observational study with a cohort approach to assess life expectancy. Subjects were patients diagnosed clinically and histopoathologically with NPC treated with chemoradiotherapy. The time of survival was determined since patients were diagnosed histopathologically until two years. Data were analyzed using Kaplan Meier survival analysis. Result: There were 30 consecutive patients included in this study. The comparison of survival rate among the three stages of NPC were not significantly difference, p = 0.230 (>0.05). Regardless of stages, on the 24th months the survival rate of NPC patients were 60%. Conclusion: The two-years overall survival rates of 30 nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients treated with chemoradiotherapy is not significantly different among stages. The survival rate of patients with NPC is low.
