Abstract
Background:. In patients who undergoing surgery have increased the stress response that will increase blood sugar levels. However, the provision of etomidate, has the effect of the removal of the adrenal, causing hypoglycemia, so it would be beneficial for patients who undergoing surgery. The purpose of this study was to saw the effects of etomidate induction 0.4 mg / kgbw on blood sugar levels. Methods: This was an experimental with pre and pst test group design, using 15 patient who are undergoing surgery with general anesthesia in central of surgical installation dr. Kariadi Hospital Semarang have met inclusion and exclusion criteria. Blood sample were taken before and after induction of etomidate 0,4mg/kgbw, and then measured blood sugar levels. The data was processed with computer program with a standard test of significance p <0.05. Result:. There are changes in blood sugar levels before and after induction of etomidate 0.4 mg/kgbw. The result of the statistic showed a significant difference ( p<0,05 ) between before and after induction etomidate 0,4mg/kgbw,there are between before and 2 hours after induction (p=0,004), 2 hours and 6 hours after induction (p=0,005) and then between before and 6 hours after induction (p=0,007) but still in normal. Conclusion: There is a decresed of blood sugar levels significantly after induction of etomidate 0.4 mg / kgbw but still in normal. Keywords: Etomidate, blood glucose
