Abstract

The objective of this proposed research is to examine the pervaporation membrane technology for the dehydration of bioethanol. More specifically, this research aims to build a mathematical model of pervaporation membrane for dehydration of bioethanol. Bioethanol is one type of biofuels produced from the fermentation of glucose (sugar). Application of bioethanol as Biofuel (BBN) requires more than 99% purity. The higher levels of bioethanol, is the better the engine performance. It is needed to purify up to fuel grade. Pervaporation is a membrane separation process used as an alternative separation of organic compounds from the aquatic solution or solvent dehydration on an industrial scale with low energy consumption. Mathematical modeling is the process of modeling problems that arise in the real world are interpreted and represented in an abstract symbol. Mathematical modeling based on the mass and heat transfer process that occured. The obtained equation will be solved by using Matlab program. From the simulation, it is known variables that influence the performance of pervaporation membranes are: feed flowrate , feed temperature , and water concentration in feed . The higher the feed flow rate and temperature will increase the flux. Similarly, the higher the water composition in feed will also increase the flux.
