Abstract
Membrane fouling is the major limitation for a broader application of membrane technologies. Most of the studies in ultrafiltration (UF) had been concerned with fouling caused by proteins, and much less attention had been devoted to fouling caused by polysaccharides. Recently, we had started to investigate fouling phenomena during UF of polysaccharides by studying the solute–membrane (by static adsorption to the membrane or diffusion through the membrane) and membrane–solute–solute interactions (by UF), using dextrans as model substances [1]. This paper is continuation of that study in order to obtain comprehensive knowledge of polysac-charide fouling in UF.
