Abstract

Poverty represent complex problem influenced by various factor which each other is interconnected, such as income level of society, unemployment, health, education, access to service and goods, location, geographical, and environment. The higher of poor people in Central Java show the low level of public welfare in Central Java. This research aim to analyse direct and indirect influence of some variables such as : mean years of schooling, Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) per capita, and expenditure per capita to the number of poor people in Central Java Province in 2009. This research use path analysis using data cross section from Regency/City in Central Java Province in 2009 with supporting software from SPSS to analyze the data. Data used in this research is secondary data obtained from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS). The result shows that all variable (mean years of schooling, GRDP per capita, and expenditure per capita) related to poverty (the number of poor people) having the character of signifikan and negativity. Mean years of schooling variable have an effect on positive directly and signifikan to GRDP per capita and have an effect on positive indirectly to expenditure per capita, GRDP per capita variable have an effect on positive directly and signifikan to expenditure per capita. Most dominant variable influence the amount of poor people in Central Java Province is mean years of schooling.
