Abstract

There are two numeral systems in the current use of Korean: one is native Korean, another is Sino Korean which is under the influence of Chinese. This paper aims at describing the nature of these two system as they are represented by different morphosyntactic forms and used for different purpose as well. By the end of this paper, the writer also discussed the distinction of measure words and classifiers where in some language, they use the same numeral system. In Korean, however, there is a tendency for measure words to prefer Sino Korean over Native Korean numerals, where for Classifiers, it prefers Native Korean over sino Korean with the exception of numerals beyond 100 as Native Korean numerals are limited to 99.
