Abstract

PT. Maithland Smith Indonesia (PT. MSI) is a company producing furniture which is marketed in America continent. PT. MSI experiences delay of product delivery to its main distributor which is caused by unreachably production target. To know the problems occurred which is causing the unreachably production target, approximation of Lean Manufacturing is used so that the wastes causing the long production time is identified. From the result of the approximation, it is known that Department of chair machinery is a department with many wastes. To know the root problem which is happened to cause the wastes, fishbone diagram is used. A waste has a potential root problem to a process and to its effect. To know how great the effect of the root problem to a waste and to its effect, the FMEA (Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) is used. From the result, it is known that the problems occurred in Chair Machinery is caused by the unready jig to be used and there is no information of its availability. In the direction of it, a jig management is needed so that jig would be available and happens in good condition if it’s needed. The management includes the arrangement of storage location using popularity principal, the making of Standard Operating Procedures for the activity in jig room. And the design of jig database. By the usage of the jig management, non value added activities can be reduced. The average of percentage of set up time which can be reduced is 52,13 %, with its range 17,27% – 67,47% . The prediction of set up time which can be reduced by having the special tool and material for certain machines because the jig isn’t made is 9,80 %, with its range 1,29 % - 21,74 %
