Abstract

Round is a magnitude of the playing field of optical polarization of a substance or incident angle of polarized light is rotated by a layer of oil and its value is expressed in degrees of rotation. Optical rotation can be determined using a polarimeter. Polarimeter is a device composed of polarisator and analyzers. Polarimeter is a Polaroid that can polarize light, while the analyzer is a Polaroid that can analyze / polarize light. Practicum polarimeter uses WXG-4 polarimeter type, and the materials used are of Turmeric oil with impurity of kerosene (kerosene). This lab uses a variable fixed volume of urmeric oil 10 ml to tube A. Independent variables used were the volume of the addition of kerosene, for each of the tubes A variable (1A-5A) 0 ml, 1 ml, 2 ml, 3 ml and 4 ml. In this lab can be concluded that the magnitude of optical rotation effect on the purity of the oil. The greater the optical rotation of oil purity level is higher. The addition of kerosene led to the smaller size of optical rotation. At 1A-5A variable optical rotation 5°, 3°, 2°, 1° and 0,5 °. obtained the equation y = 0,214x2 - 1,957x + 4,928 and value R² = 0,995. Optical rotation is outside the range of pure optical rotation in the SNI is (-10°) – (-26)°, This is because the nature of the oil that is no longer pure. Oil is still pure optical rotation greater than the oil that has mixed the other ingredients. This could be due at the time of filling the oil into the sample tube so that there is not full of air bubbles contained there in. Key words: Polarization, Turmeric Oil, Kerosene
