Abstract

Activated carbon is charcoal can absorb cations and anions, molecules in the form of organic and inorganic compounds, solution or gas. The raw material used is leather waste cassava. During this time the waste has not been exploited to the maximum by the community. Manufacture of activated carbon with the skin this is done through a process of cassava carbonization. Dried cassava is put on the skin in the electric furnace temperature controller is equipped on certain temperature and is carbonated. Once it's activated carbon formed by soaked in KOH 0.3 N for 15 hours. Activated carbon formed then filtered and then dried in a derived filtratnya furnace temperature 50000C for 5 minutes. Activated carbon formed then tested the power absorption of iodium, moisture levels and his ashes. Of the experiment can be inferred that the most optimal variable in the manufacture of activated carbon is at the time and a 20-minute 4000C weighing activated carbon formed by 6,67 grams. As for the analysis of power absorption of iodine optimum temperature is used with carbonization time 5000C 50 minutes and gained power absorption of 2,538 mg/gram. For the analysis of moisture, the optimum temperature is used with a time of 50 minutes 4500C and water content of 13%. Whereas optimum variable that is used to analyze the grey levels are at a temperature of gray levels with 5000C 5.5%. Keyword: activated carbon, furnace, cassava, levels, temperature, time.
