Abstract

Spectrophotometry is one of the instrumental analysis method that uses the basic interaction of energy and matter. Spectrophotometry can be used to determine the concentration of a solution through the absorption intensity at certain wavelengths. The wavelength used is the maximum wavelength which gives maximum absorbance. One of the spectrophotometer working principle is based on the phenomenon of absorption of light by certain chemical species in the ultraviolet and visible light (visible). Essential ingredients found in roselle ( Hibiscus sabadarifa Linn ) petals is anthocyanin pigments which include flavonoid that acts as an antioxidant. The amount of anthocyanin content of determining the density of red in rosella flowers. The more content of anthocyanin, the more intense red color and the more antioxidants. For the blank solution, it can be concluded that the smaller the transmittance of the solution, the greater the absorbance, both have an inversely proportional relationship. Based on experiments on measuring the absorbance obtained that the higher the absorbance, the more intense the resulting color, the more acidic, and high anthocyanin content. Keywords : Spectrophotometry, Roselle (Hibiscus sabdarifa Linn), anthocyanin
