Representasi Perempuan Dalam Penggunaan Tutur Sapaan dan Tutur Acuan (Suatu Kajian Stilistik Atas Novel Rara Mendut Karya Y.B. Mangunwijaya)

Abstract

Language has a close relationship with culture and view point of its users. This is a study of the language choice, especially about the choice of terms of address and terms of reference in Rara Mendut, a novel written by Y.B. Mangunwijaya. This study answers how the two kinds of the terms are used to represent female characteristics in the novel. The result is that there are some expressions that have negative connotations if they are used to refer women but not to men. Women who do not act as constructed by their society are refered using expressions with negative connotation. Key words: terms of address, terms of reference, gender, culture, point of view.
