Abstract

Background: Cisplatin can cause decreased of the hemopoetic system because of ROS in head and neck cancer patients. Combination of high dose vitamin C and E as outside antioxidant was required to neutralize ROS. Objective: To prove that combination of high dose vitamin C and E could reduced the decreased of hemopoetic system induced by cisplatin in head and neck cancer patients. Methods: Pre-post test design. Subjects met the inclusion criteria at ENT-H&N clinic and ward of Kariadi Hospital Semarang was block randomized then divided into two groups ; treatment group (vitamin C 1000 mg and E 400 mg) and control group ( vitamin C2x50 mg ) for 5 weeks. Data were analized with chi square, paired t test and independent t test. Results: Fourty eight subjects met inclusion criteria, most aged 50-59 (35,6%) years, men and women 3: 1, 32(71,1%) KNF, 27(60%) stage IV. There’s decreased of hemoglobin and leucocytes significant differences between two groups (p <0.05), there’s decreased of erythrocytes and platelets no significant differences (p>0,05). Conclusion: Combination of high dose vitamin C and E could reduced the decreased of hemoglobin and leucocytes induced by cisplatin in head and neck cancer patients.
