Abstract
Backgrounds: Breast Chemotherapy agents in breast cancer’s patients are also playing role in their immune depression. Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA) is an essential fatty acid which may increase cellular immune system activity. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of EPA supplementation on stage III B breast cancer’s patients CD8+ T cells count who received chemotherapy. Methods: It was pre and post test randomized controlled design study. Samples were patients diagnosed with stage IIIB invasive ductal carcinoma of the breasts. Samples divided into control and treatment group with EPA supplementation and also tested for CD8+ T cells count before and 21 days after first cycle CAF chemotherapy. Test of difference using Mann Whitney. Results: Samples obtained were 40 patients, 20 patients on control group received CAF chemotherapy and 20 patients on treatment group received CAF chemotherapy and EPA supplementation. CD8 + T cells count were significantly higher 1131,7 (483 – 3506) on treatment group compare to control 1131,7 (483 – 3506) (p<0,05). The CD8+ T cells difference were significantly different on both study group before and 21 days after first chemotherapy( p<0,005). Conclusion: The CD8 + T cells count increase by the EPA given in stage IIIB ductal invasive carcinoma patient’s who received chemotherapy. Keywords : CD8+T cells, invasive ductal carcinoma of the breast stage III B, chemotherapy CAF, Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA)
