Abstract

Background: Febrile neutropenia with fever in children differ in normal people in general due to the decrease in neutrophil counts as one of the main body's defense against microbes, the patient becomes very susceptible to severe infections that increase mortality. This research searching at risk factors for febrile neutropenia in ALL Objective: To determine the high-dose therapy cytostatic risk, nutritional status, socioeconomic status, mean duration of peripheral IV catheter use and hypoalbuminemia are risk factors for febrile neutropenia in children with ALL Method: Studies on 26 cases using consecutive sampling and 26 controls. Cases were ALL patients with febrile neutropenia, whereas controls were without febrile neutropenia. Statistics used were the t test, chi square and multivariate analysis with multiple logistic regression test . Result: Univariate studies show low socioeconomic status was a risk factor for incidence of febrile neutropenia with OR value of4.591 times (p= 0.032, 95% CI = 1.078 to 15.086). High risk cytostatic therapy, nutritional status, the mean duration of peripheral IV catheter use and hypoalbuminemia not the risk of febrile neutropenia events. In a multivariate analysis the risk factors were none statistically significant on the incidence of febrile neutropenia (p>0.05) Conclusion: Patients with ALL with low socioeconomic state were at risk of suffering febrile neutropenia. Key words: febrile neutropenia, acute lymphoblastic leukemia, risk factor
