Representasi Perempuan Pelaku Kejahatan atau Woman Offender di Media Massa: Analisa Pemberitaan Malinda Dee

Abstract

Women become focus in critical discourse about journalism, media and gender. In journalism products, woman usually represent in certain stereotype as consequences of the existence of dominant culture, masculine ideology. By using the concept of Representation Theory by Stuart Hall (1979) this article try to explore how a woman offender, Malinda Dee, was represented as mythical monster, sexy liar, etc. Meanwhile the news was tent to focus on her physical attractiveness rather than her criminal case. It shows that Indonesian media still ignore ‘gender perspective journalism concept’ that has specific approach in covering woman fairly. Key words: woman offenders, woman representation, stereotype
