PERBEDAAN EFEKTIVITAS CHLORHEXIDINE DAN POVIDONE IODINE SEBAGAI ORAL HYGIENE PADA PENDERITA DENGAN VENTILATOR MEKANIK DI ICU YANG DINILAI DENGAN SEKRET TRAKHEA

Abstract

Background : Oral antiseptic drug is one of non-pharmacological ways to reduce incidence of pneumonia for patients with mechanical ventilator in ICU. Chlorhexidine widely used as antiseptic than povidone iodine. The purpose of this study is to compare the effectiveness of chlorhexidine and povidone iodine as oral hygiene in patients with mechanical ventilator assessed by trakheal secretions. Method : Sample consisted of 32 patients with mechanical ventilator in RSUP Dr. Kariadi, Central Operating Installation, that has fulfilled the inclusion and exclusion criteria, and then divided into two groups by consecutive random sampling : group 1(C) recieved chlorhexidine 0,2% and group 2(P) recieved povidone iodine 1%. Trakheal secretions assessment carried out pretest and posttest. Result : Trakheal secretions pretest and posttest in both groups there were significant differences (p<0,05). Comparative analysis of changes in trakheal secretions pretest and posttest in both groups was not significant (p>0,05). Conclusion : Chlorhexidine and povidone iodine is an antiseptic that has the effectiveness of oral hygiene doesn’t differ to assess trakheal secretions in patients with mechanical ventilator in ICU.
