Abstract

Background: Prevention of infection is one of the efforts of infection control in hospitals is the responsibility of all parties, including medical students as health professionals. Basically, control efforts are made, seen from the daily practice. Where as a medical student must perform well to remember has been equipped with science and knowledge in lectures. Therefore, researchers wanted to explore more about the knowledge, attitudes and practices of medical students towards the prevention of infection. Methods: This study is an observational analytic study with cross-sectional method. The study was conducted in March-July 2011. Study sample as many as 54 students of Diponegoro University medical school who meet inclusion and exclusion criteria. The data was collected by filling a questionnaire. The data described in the form of tables and pictures, done pearson correlation test with SPSS windows ver. 16.0. Results: The results of analysis of the relationship between knowledge with attitudes toward the prevention of infections acquired by Pearson correlation test p = 0.029 (significant). The relationship between knowledge of the practice of infection prevention obtained by Pearson correlation test p = 0.295 (not significant). The relationship between attitudes to the practice of infection prevention obtained by Pearson correlation test p = 0.048 (significant). Conclusion: Knowledge with the attitude and the attitude to the practice there is a significant relationship to the prevention of infection. While knowledge of the practice is not a significant relationship to the prevention of infection.
