Abstract

Background : Callus is a skin disorder caused by a response to chronic mechanical pressure in the form of hyperkeratotic, demarcated, and non penetration circumscribed papules / plaques. Callus found in hand rolled cigarettes factory workers, as a result of work activity to do the same task repeatedly, such as rolling, cutting, packing and wrapping that causes repeated mechanical trauma to the skin Objective : The study aims to investigate the factors associated with the occurrence of callus on the hand of hand rolled cigarettes factory workers. Method : The study is an observasional using cross sectional design. The samples were taken in total. Respondents were cigarettes factory workers of PR. Denny Putra Mandiri, Jepara. The data is collected with questionnaire and during the study 82 samples were obtained. The data collected is of clinical examination,demographic and related factors to callus. Data analyzed were performed using SPSS Windows Ver. 17.0. Result : The incidence of callus in the production division was bigger than in the non-production division. The occurence of callus was more on respondents who worked more than equal to 10 years than the respondents who worked less than 10 years. Respondents who worked with tools,experianced more incidence of callus more than those whodid not use the tools. Callus occurs in workers aged more than equal to 30 years old more than workers aged less than 30 years old, although there was no significant association. Conclusion : The job division, work duration, tool used were factors associated with the occurrence of callus. Age showed no significant association with the occurrence of callus.
