KEJADIAN DAN TINGKAT DEPRESI PADA LANJUT USIA: Studi perbandingan di panti wreda dan komunitas

Abstract

Background Depression is the most often psychiatric disorder occurs in elderly. Residence difference was reposted as predictor of depression in elderly. This study aims to compare the incidence and degree of depression and also the risk contributing to the depression prevalence of nursing home and community-dwelling elderly. Methods Cross-sectional study involved 52 nursing home elderly and 50 community dwelling elderly as research subjects. Depression, age, sex, marital status, educational level, social participation, health status, drugs have side effect depressive, cognitive status, functional status, hearing problem, and vision problem data were collected through interviews used questionnaire. Geriatric Depression Scale-Short Form (GDS-SF) value ≥5 indicating depression. Chi square test and Mann Whitney U test were done with a computer application program. Result The depression prevalence of community-dwelling elderly (60%) was greater than the depression prevalence of nursing home elderly (38.5%). Prevalence and degree comparation got p scores 0.030 and 0.036. The relationships among less social participation, enough social participation, and functional impairment and depression prevalence of nursing home eldely had p values <0.05. All studied risk factors had p values >0.05 for the relationship with the depression prevalence of community-dwelling elderly. Conclusion There are prevalence and degree differences of depression among nursing home and community-dwelling elderly. Less social participation, enough social participation, and functional impairment are associated with depression prevalence of nursing home elderly.
