Abstract

Background : Extract jambu biji contain anthraquinon which has laxative effect, Cglucosylchromone which stimulates insulin secretion, and mannose-phospate which converts the enzyms that metabolite glucoses. The purpose of this experiment is to proof that the merit of Jambu biji extracts can decrease blood glucose level by giving extract of Jambu biji on pre-loaded wistar rats. Method : The study was conducted by employing a complete Randomized Post Test Control Group Design in 25 local male wistar rats, weight 200-250 gr, and 3-4 month old, which was divided into 5 different groups. The blood glucose level was measured using glucometer One Touch®UltraTM at 0, 30, 60, 90, and 120 minute after the glucose tolerant was given. The data was processed using SPSS for Windows Release 15. Result : Extract of Jambu biji at 2,52 gr/200grW; 5,04 gr/200grW; 10,08 gr/200grW doses can decrease the pre-loaded wistar rats’ blood glucose level. However, the hypoglycaemic effect of extract Jambu biji at the doses above shows smaller reduction of blood glucose level compared to glibenclamid at 0,126 gr/ 200grW dose.
