Abstract

Background : Liver plays an important role in metabolism and detoxification. Measurement of AST and ALT enzymes can identify the safety of a substance metabolized by the liver. Enzymes AST and ALT are also marker of liver function damage. Simunox is herbal product produced by PT. Sido Muncul. This study aims to determine the effect of Simunox on healthy individual liver function as measured by the parameters of AST and ALT levels. Method : Experimental research laboratory with the design of randomized control group pretest - posttest design using samples of healthy human aged 17-25 years. The sample amounted to 50 people divided into 2 groups: K (placebo), P (given Simunox). Interventions carried out for 7 days, on day 8 AST and ALT levels was checked by using an automatic analyzer. Results were analyzed using paired t-test and independent t-test. Result: Descriptive analysis obtained the highest mean value 19,92 ± 5,35 on AST levels and 31,72± 9,10 ALT levels. Paired t-test between pre and post on treatment group showed p=0.001 in the levels of AST and p=0.280 in ALT levels. Independent t-test showed there were no significant differences in delta of AST levels between the control group and the treatment group (p=0.482), whereas the delta in the levels of ALT, there were significant differences between the control group with the treatment group (p=0.003). Conclusion : Simunox affect the levels of AST significantly and not significantly affect ALT levels of healthy individual.
