One application of accelerometer sensor is for detecting hand movements. It can be used to detect hand movements while writing in the air. The concept is to use sensors to measure acceleration that occurs when writing and from the acceleration data is used to find the distance and direction of movement performed. In this thesis, discussed about the use of Hitachi H48C acceleromet er sensor for detecting acceleration of movements performed double integral calculation of the acceleration to get the distance. The process of reading accel eration and integral calculation using a microcontroller ATMega 8535. Then the acceleration and distance data sent through serial communication with the computer. Distance data on the computer used to create images of written using a program with Visual C #. Net. Testing has been done to produce writing with a pretty good view, with an average error distance in the X-axis positive direction is 4.348 cm and 4.111 cm in the negative dir ection. While the average error distance in the Z axis positive direction is 5.409 cm and 4.382 cm in the negative direction. To get good results takes time for stroke from start moving until the movement stops is approximately 0.5 to 1 second. At the time of writing there should be a pause between movement and no rotation occurs in the accelerometer. Keywords: accelerometer sensor, acceleration, distance, writting
