Abstract

Essential oil is one of the agro-commodity export potential that could be a mainstay for Indonesia to get foreign exchange, one of which is cinnamon oil. The amount of cinnamon oil demand is exported abroad such as America, Holland and Singapore led to some actors who want to take advantage dishonestly. One of them is a falsification of cinnamon oil by mixing it with kerosene (kerosene). Counterfeiting cinnamon oil can be detected, one way to analyze the optical rotation of cinnamon oil using WXG-4 polarimeter. On the practical use of cinnamon oil 10 ml as a control variable and kerosene (kerosene) and VCO as independent variables, with variation of volume 0 ml, 1 ml, 2 ml, 3 ml, and 4ml. Measurements were made until there is a dark light on the polarimeter. Analysis of optical rotation is obtained, after the kerosene is added impurity, optical rotation values progressively decreased. Optical rotation of pure cinnamon oil for -20, when added to kerosene optical rotation remains -30, -3.50, - 40,and -40 , and optical rotation when added to VCO is-5, -3, -1.50 and -10 . The optical rotation was in the range of pure optical rotation in the SNI (-5) 0 - (0) 0, so that cinnamon oil is already suitable for export commodities. Key words: Oil Cinnamon, polarimeter, optical rotation
