Abstract

Essential oil is one of the rest of the metabolic processes in plants, which are formeddue to reactions between the various chemical compounds in the presence of water. Lemongrass fragrance oil exports are not eligible if it has a low optical rotation orcontain material aging. Aging materials contained in the form of fat-scented citronellaoil, alcohol and kerosene are often used as a mixer. This material may be found inlemongrass oil because it comes from packaging materials which contain substancespreviously mentioned above. Optical Rotation is a magnitude of the playing field of optical polarization of a substance orincident angle of polarized light is rotated by a layer of essential oil and its value is expressed in degrees of rotation. Optical rotation can be determined using apolarimeter. Based on observations of the whole variables, found the addition of kerosene to therelationship of optical rotation decreased. This resulted in the properties of citronellaoil that purity has decreased, so that when the observation of optical rotation using apolarimeter, the light produced is not as bright as a state of pure oil. From the resultswith a variable amount of material pengamatam impuritis 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%, 30%, and 40% obtained an optical rotation values are closest to the SNI is 14o of thefirst variable with impuritis materials by 5% and 10%. To use the graph closest to thevalue of R2 is a linear graph. Key words: essential oils, scented citronella oil, optical rotation
