Abstract
Nowadays the evolution of the mobile communication market is expected to bring a major increase of the data traffic demands combined with high bit rate services. To successfully satisfy these requirements, Third Generation systems must increase their spectral efficiency and support high user data rates especially on the downlink direction of the communication path due to its heavier load. One of these technologies is the High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) concept, which has been included by the 3GPP (Third Generation Partnership Project) in the specifications of the Release 5 as an evolutionary step to boost the WCDMA performance for downlink packet traffic. The HSDPA concept consists of a new downlink time shared channel that supports a 2-ms transmission time interval (TTI), adaptive modulation and coding (AMC), multi-code transmission, fast scheduling, and fast physical layer hybrid automatic repeat-request (HARQ). By implementing a network dimensioning tool and network planning tool, in this final project were tried to provide simulations and predictions about capacity and coverage in urban area, in this case Semarang tengah and Semarang selatan as an example . These tools are Genex RND as a network dimensioning tool and Genex U-Net as a network planning tool. When using Genex RND in network dimension process, there’s some input parameters should be determine, such as planned coverage area, number of user, services asumption, and link budget parameter, some result from RND could be concerned as input parameter in the planning process using Genex U-Net, such as number of Node B, cell radius, and user density. From these Genex U-Net can be obtained some simulations and predictions. The simulations contain informations about number of user connections, mean while the predictions contain coverage maps and coverage data statistics of received signal strenght, pilot signal, HS-SCCH (High-Speed Shared Control Channel) channel power, HS-PDSCH (High-Speed Physical Downlink Shared Channel) channel power, and RLC (Radio Link Control) throughput. Based on those simulations in Semarang urban area, the number of HSDPA connections increasing affected by some reasons, that are number of node B increased from 14 to 20, number of carrier increased from one to two, and number of call per hour for HSDPA increased from 0,23 to 0,83. in order to obtain predictions result, it should be decided first about network configuration. By using 14 Node B, two carier and 0,83 call per hour of HSDPA service usage, then the result are, average of coverage signal level is -74,57 dBm, highest percentage of pilot signal is 92 % on range -15 to -20 dB, highest percentage of HS-SCCH channel power coverage is 60 % on range 30 to 35 dB, highest percentage of HSPDSCH channel power coverage is 64 % on range -5 to 0 dB, highest percentage of RLC throughputl is 20,2 % on 160 kbps.
