Abstract
One of the most promising for future network of DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing), especially when the required bandwidth is quite large. Transmission capacity of a network of SONET (Synchronous Optical Network) has increased significantly associated with the use of DWDM technology. Traffic Grooming in SONET DWDM ring network is solving a different problem packing traffic into multiple streams of traffic speed in the ring with the aim of saving the use of DWDM SONET devices. Traffic grooming is the process of grouping multiple telecommunication lines, which will determine the merging traffic streams on each node. In this final project will simulate the planning of transport networks based on DWDM SONET ring network. In this case the traffic grooming will determine the optimization of DWDM SONET ring network planning. RWA (Routing and Wavelength Assignment) will put the routes traffic to a specific wavelength as a way to minimize the overall cost of the use of the device SADM (SONET Add / Drop Multiplexers). With input multiple nodes and the amount of traffic per node, so that we will get a channel DWDM SONET ring network is optimal as a way to minimize the overall cost of the device SADM. From the test results, it can be concluded that the rate of decrease in the amount of usage the largest SADM device shown in tests with 25 input nodes and the average value of 30 Gbps traffic that is equal to 73,33%. Decrease in the amount of usage levels as low SADM device shown in tests with 20 input nodes and the average value of 10 Gbps traffic that is equal to 50,55%. Keywords: traffic grooming, RWA, SONET, WDM.
