Abstract

High pressure sodium lamps are efficient and widely used in lighting for outdoor lighting such as street lighting. To turn on the lights of this type, it takes an additional device called a ballast. Right now there are many that use electromagnetic ballasts. Electromagnetic ballasts are more simple, but the weaknes are low cos phi, low efficiency, as well as weight and size are great. The use of electronic ballasts to oercome this problem. In this final project created an electronic ballast using resonant inverter series half-bridge topology with switching devices using mosfet, where the inverter operates at the condition of Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS) with a nominal frequency above the resonant frequency. Ballast output power settings done by changing the frequency of triggers, so that ballast can be adjusted this dimming. Setting of frequency triggers using microcontroller ATmega8535, thus dimming can be done automatically. Ballasts that have been designed, can be arranged in four conditions: the initial conditions where the light is optimal for 320lux with a height of 3 meters, lights dimmed for 170lux with a height of 3 meters, lights came back on the optimal and the last lights went out. conditions took place automatically according to settings entered for 24 hours. optimal light ballast input power required for 150watt to operate at a frequency of 22kHz. Setting the output power is done by adding ballast switching frequency. Key words: electronic ballast, resonant inverter, Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS), dimming, microcontroller ATmega8535
