Abstract

Nowadays, television antennas are very diverse both in type and shape. But there are no television broadcast receiving antennas which adopt the type of planar Koch curve fractal dipole antennas. The most of television antennas are still adopt the conventional form of antennas that have relatively large size.The using of Planar Koch curve fractal dipole antennas type on broadcast television reception, is expected to reduce the dimension size of the antenna, so there will be no longer needed a large antennas on our television. In this final project, the planar Koch curve fractal dipole antennas is designed at a frequency of 600 MHz. The materials used as the antennas is two layers of epoxy PCB (FR4), with 1.5 mm thick material and the dielectric constant of 4.7. The first layer of substrate is used as a patch of the antenna, while the second layer is used as a balun, the balun is connected between the patch by a conductor through a hole in the substrate (via holes). The process begins with the antennas design based on existing theories. The next step is to design and simulate the performance of the antennas using the software. The software that used for simulation process is IE3D V12 and AWR Design Environment 2008. And for the last step is measurement of antennas performance based on the value the working frequency, the ratio of received power, VSWR, and radiation patterns. Measurements are also made directly to television sets and invoke other television antenna for comparison. The test results show that the planar Koch curve fractal dipole antennas work at a frequency of about 645 to 665 MHz. VSWR test results that obtained for the antennas is between the value of 1.07 to 1.11, so that it can be said that antennas have good performance. Radiation pattern for the four antennas show that the antennas have omnidirectional radiation pattern shape. Test results on the terrestrial television also showed that the planar Koch curve fractal dipole antennas capable of capturing all the UHF terrestrial television broadcast channel with good audio and video quality.
