Abstract
Antilock Braking System (ABS) is braking system, which its function is to prevent the vehicle’s brakes from locking up and skidding during hard stop/emergency by setting up the slip rate 20%. The purpose of the this research is to diagnose fault in the ABS system that consists of the pump efficiency loss, fluid leakage, air blister in brake oil and brake pad efficiency loss. This ABS system fault is modeled by using the Matlab/Simulink software. The simulation results of the ABS system by using the Matlab/Simulink software are as follow: 1. The stopping distance for 90%, 70% and 50% pump efficiency loss don’t change significantly. It’s only 50 – 50.1 m. Pump efficiency loss at both 70% and 50% is wheel locking happened quickly that cause slip time about 1.3 second. Pump efficiency over 70% is proper to use but less than 70% is improper to use. 2. The stopping distance for 1% leakage is similar with normal condition, that is 50 m and stopping time takes 6.7 second. Stopping distance for 10% leakage is 60 m and it takes 7.8 second. Leakages over 10% cause the loose brake because slip rate is under 0.1 and seal piston must be replaced. 3. Slip rates for both 90% and 70% brake pad efficiencies don’t change, still at 0.2. The 40% efficiency causes loose brake because its slip rate is under 0.1. Stopping distance for 90% brake pad efficiency is similar with the normal condition that is 50 m. Stopping distance for 70% efficiency is 58 m and its stopping time takes 7.4 second. Stopping distance for 40% efficiency is about 73 m and its stopping time takes 9 second. Efficiency over 70% pads is proper to use and efficiency under 70% pads must be replaced. 4. Bulk modulus 1.1 x 109 Pa is to disturb the air in the brake oil. Its stopping distance is 53 m with its stopping time is 6.9 second. Total slip peak is less than normal condition. Keywords : Antilock Braking System, fault diagnosis.
