Abstract

• Silika gel merupakan salah saw bahan anorganik yang memiliki kelebihan sifat yaitu memiliki kestabilan tinggi terhadap pengaruh mekanik, temperatur, dan kondisi asam sehingga silika gel banyak digunakan sebagai adsorben, material pendukung katalis, dan lain-lain. Abu sekam padi merupakan limbah produksi padi yang kaya akan silika dan secara ekonomi dapat dijadikan sebagai bahan baku Pembuatan silika gel. Dalam penelitian ini telah disintesis silika gel dari abu sekam padi dengan menggunakan natrium hidroksida (NaOH) dan asam sitrat (C6Hs07). Selam padi bersih dan kering dibakar dalam nyala api sehingga didapatkan arangsekam dan` kemudian diabukan selama empat jam pada suhu 700°C. Abu sekam pacF kemudian dilebur dengan larutan NaOH menghasilkan natrium silikat (Na2SiOs). Proses pembentukan silika gel dilakukan dengan menambahkan asam sitrat secara berteles-tetes ke dalam natrium silikat hingga mencapai pH=3, 5, dan 7. Silika gel hasil sintesis dimanfaatkan untuk pemucatan minyak curah di pasaran. Karakterisasi silika gel dilakukan dengan menggunakan Spektroskopi Infra-rnerah (IR), Difraktometer Sinar-X (XRD) dan Spektroskopi Serapan Atom (AAS). Daya pemucatan ditentukan dengan menggunakan Spektroskopi UV-Vis sedangkan angka asam ditentukan secara titrimetri. • Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa silika, gel pH-3 mempunyai kandungan natrium paling tinggi (23,716%) dan dalam uji adsorpsi mampu menurunkan angka asam minyak goreng curah dari 0,078 menjadi 0,034, sedangkan silika gel pH=7 mempunyai daya pemucat paling besar yaitu 88,571%. • Silica gel is one of inorganic material which has special character. It as a high stability against mechanical influence, themperat-ure, and acid condition therefore silica gel is able to be used as adsorbent, catalyst, etc. Rice hull ash as a waste product of the rice industry which is rich in silica and able to be used as raw material :for the production of silica gel economically. Preparation and characterization of silica gel from rice hull ash by sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and citric acid (C61-1807). had been studied. • Cleaned and dried rice hull ash were burned in the flame then resulted charcoals. It was heated at 700°C for 'four hours. The powder was destructed by sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solution to produce sodium silicate (Na2SiO3). Synthesis of silica gel was done by addition citric acid dropingly to sodium silicate solution at various pH (3, 5, and 7). Synthesized silica gel was applied for bleaching `'curate" coconut oil. Characterization of silica gel was done by Infra-Red Spectroscopy, X-Ray Difraction, and Atom Absorption Spectroscopy. Bleaching capacity and fatty acid number were determined by UV-Vis SpectrosCopy and titrimetric methods. • Result showed that silica gel of pH=3 had the highest sodium content (23.716%). In the adsorption test, the silica gel could decrease the acid number of ``curates" coconut oil from 0.078 to 0.034. Meanwhile silica gel of p1-1=7 had the highest bleaching capacity (88.571%).
