Abstract

Copper has been taken from its ore via concentration process followed by wash-ing and separating it physically. The process result in low percentage of deposit be¬sides wastes problem occurred, such as Cd in the water system. Copper and cadmium had been taken from solution by electrolytical method to find out the influence of electrode material upon the quality of precipitation and Faraday's yield. Electrolysis of copper was carried out under the applied potential of 2.02 V for Cu and C elec¬trodes, 1.77 V for Zn and C electrodes, and 1.74 V for C and C electrodes, while elec¬trolysis of Cd was carried out with the same electrodes as Cu electrolysis and applied potentials of 2.6, 2.71, 2.44 volt, respectively. The Faraday's yield for Cu with Cu-C, Zn-C and C-C electrodes were 18.165, 32.071, and 17.725 % respectively. The Fara¬day's yield for Cd with Cu-C, Zn-C, and C-C were 3.821, 3.193, and 1.500 %, re¬spectively. Keywords: copper, cadmium, electrolysis, electrode material, Faraday's yield
