Abstract
Biodiesel is an alternative fuel of diesel engine consisting of the alkyl monoesters from vegetable oils or animal fats passed transesterification process and or esterification. Indonesia’s palm oil production potency which is big enough, enables usage of biodiesel which is refined from palm oil. One of weakness from biodiesel is that biodiesel more prone to oxidation with oxygen in the air than petroleum-based diesel fuel. Oxidation at biodiesel can cause the fuel to become acidic and forms insoluble gums and sediments that can plug fuel filter. The objective of this study was to find out the impact of oxidized biodiesel The exhaust gas emission test were performed at Isuzu phanter model C2300 used Autochek gas & smoke analyzer (SPTC), fueled with oxidation and unoxidation biodiesel were diesel fuel as comparator. The tests were performed at steady-state conditions at engine speed of 3000 rpm with various load untill engine speed rich 2000 and 1000 rpm. The fuel blending between biodiesel and diesel fuel was variated at biodiesel contain 100% and 20%. The oxidized biodiesel testing Result shows peroxide value to reach 200 meq. Compared with unoxidized biodiesel, oxidized neat biodiesel is prone to decreaseing the exhaust gas emission such as NOx, SO2, O2, opacity and increases emission HC, CO, CO2. keyword : biodiesel, oxidized biodiesel, peroxide value, emission, exhaust gas.
