Abstract

Data from Tegal District Health Office and some Health Centers in Tegal District on February 2006 showed that there was any problem in terms of the report of food supplement program. It was due to slowness of the report acceptance, un-preciseness of target, and high percentage of malnutrition case in Tegal district (2.32%). Aim of this research was to find out relationship between function of food supplement program management performed by a nutritionist and success level of food supplement program on children less than five years old catagorized as malnutrition at the Health Centers in district of Tegal year 2006. This was observational research using descriptive-analytic method and cross sectional approach and combined by qualitative research to obtain more information about function of management function of food supplement program performed by a nutritionist. Number of population was 25 nutritionist at the Health Centers in Tegal District. Data collection was performed by interview using structured questionairre and in-depth interview using interview guidance towards nutritionist and Coordinator of food supplement program at district level. Data were analyzed using univariat, bivariat (Chi-Square test), and content analysis method. The result of this research shows that most of the respondents have a good planning (56.0 %), good actuating (76.0%), good monitoring (56.0%), bad recording (52.0%), and good result of the program (84.4%). Result of relationship analysis shows that variables of planning, actuating, monitoring, valuing, recording, and reporting do not have significant relationship with the success of food supplement program. Factors of recording and reporting are very weak in management function of food supplement program. There is no significant relationship between management function of food supplement program and success level of the program. Coordinator and the program at district level and nutritionist at the Health Centers should improve management skill especially in terms of recording and reporting in order to collect data timely, to use cohort of children less than five years old in recording the activity of the program, and to use a monitoring card of the program.
