Abstract

Penggunaan produk-produk hasil industri keramik semakin banyak diminati. Salah satu bahan baku industri keramik adalah lempung jenis kaolinit yang banyak terdapat di daerah Plered Purwokerto. Agar dapat digunakan sebagai bahan baku industri keramik halus, maka kandungan Fe dalam lempung kaolinit tidak boleh lebih _ dari 2 %. Oleh sebab itu kandungan Fe dalam lempung kaolinit dikurangi. Senyawa. Fe yang terdapat dalam lempung kaolinit berbentuk Fe,O- dapat berkurang dengan oara di rendam ke dalam larutan HF. Dengan memvariasi konsentrasi HF dan waktu kontak, maka akan didaratkan pengurangan Fe dalam kao.linitmenoapai optimal. Dari hasil analisa dengan AAS kandungan Fe dalam kaolinit sebelum perlakuan dengan HF adalah 12,795 %. Pengurangan optimal Fe dalam kaolinit oleh HF 1 7 M dan 'waktu kontak 90 menit adalah 11,44 %. Sehingga kadar Fe dalam kaolinit setelah perlakuan dengan HF menjadi 1,355% Dari hasil penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan HF oukup efektif. Many products ceramic industry more and more interesting. One of raw materials of ceramic industry is caolinit clay, it was found in Plered Purwokerto. So that a benefit of raw materials as polished ceramic industry, Fe content in the caolinit clay may not be more than 2 %. Due to that reason the content of Fe caolinit clay should be reduced. Fe compound that found in caolinit clay as Fe2O3. could be reduced by HF. By variation of HF concentration and contact time optimal content of Fe was able to find. From analysis by AAS, Fe content of caolinit clay before treatment with HF was 12,795 %. The optimal reduction of Fe in caolinit clay by HF 7 M and contact time for 90 minutes was 11,44 %. So Fe content of caolinit clay after treatment with HF was 1,355 %.
