Abstract

Wood is the main source of cellulose because it generally contains of 50% cellulose. Cellulose is the simplest type of natural polimers in that it consists of a repeating unit of D-glucose, linked through carbons 1,4 -0 linkages. The cellulose acetate is one of it's derivative which is used widely for textile material (fibers), films and plastics. The cellulose acetate primer can be synthesized by substitution of hydroxyl groups of cellulose with acetyl groups of acetate anhydrides. The optimum acetylation occured at specific condition. The results showed that the optimum condition occurred when 11 mL amount of acetate anhydrides and 3 drop amount of sulfuric acid, was added the beginning reaction temperature at 5°C and 60 minutes duration of swelling. The characteristic of cellulose acetate primer (maximum synthesis result) from pinus pulp is : it has relative molecular weight of 231580.83, duration of solubility in chloroform = 19,20 second, melting point is 284 C and percentage of acetyl groups is 44.26 %. While the characteristic of cellulose acetate primer (maximum synthesis result) from akasia pulp is : it has relative molecular weight of 215021.89, duration of solubilkty in chloroform = 23,25 second, melting point is 283 C and percentage of acetyl groups is 43.11 %.
