Abstract
By certain treatments, hydroxyl group can be formed in the framework surface of zeolite. On anion exchanger compounds, hydroxyl group are include anion which can be replaced by other anion. Research about the posibilities utilization of Bayah zeolite as anion exchanger have been done on nitrate • and nitrite ions. The activation of zeolite was done with acid o and with water at 105 - 110 °C within 4 hours. Test was done by direct contact between zeolite-OH and their salts. The change in pH was checked. As the comparing was used anion exchange of resin (OH-form). The result of research showed that zeolite which activated with acid gave the adsorbtion capacity was higher than water, where by washing of 1 % HC1 and the contact time 60 minutes was obtained that nitrate adsorbed 5,057.10 mg/gr of zeolite, whereas with water and the contact time .120 minu tes was obtained that nitrate adsorbed only 3,453.10 mg/gr of zeolite. The adsorbtion capacity of zeolite also influenced by anion concentration and the contact time of adsorbtion. For nitrate anion, the optimum adsorbtion was obtained in concentration 60 ppm and the contact time 90 minutes with the adsorbtion capacity 53,617.10+2 mg/gr of zeolite, whereas for nitrite anion with concentration 80 ppm and the contact time 60 minutes was found the adsorbtion capacity 133,194.10 2 mg/gr of zeolite. The decreasing of pH of solution proved that the adsorption mechanism is cation exchange, not anion exchange, the decreasing of cation by zeolite was bigger than anion, i.e. 50,56 % for cation and 4,412 % for anion. The utilization of resin as the comparing was obtained the result which different. The change in pH of solution on utilization of resin showed increasing, wheteas the zeolit was decreasing. Resin can decrease the concentration of anion was bigger than zeolite.
