Abstract

Dalam skripsi ini disajikan hasil-hasil penelitian tentang pengaruh variasi suhu substrat dan waktu nitridasi terhadap nilai kekerasan pemiukaan bahan baja karbon rendah yang telah dinitridasi dengan menggunakan teknik plasma lucutan pi jar. tersebutmeliputi.perubahan nilai kekerasan permukaan material yang dinitridasi. dan perubahan struktur kristalnya. Dalam penelitian ini semua pereobaan dilakukan pada kondisi kerapatan plasma yang paling optimum, yaitu pada tekana.n P = 1 torn, laju aliran gas = jarak . elektroda cm, dan. tegangan...radio frekuensi....240 Volt... Sedangkan suhu substrat divariasi pada suhu 450°C, 500°C, .550°C, dan 600°C. Variasi waktu nitridasi diambil 15 menit, 30 =nit, 40 menit, 60 menit, dan 120 menit. Dari. percobaan yang telah dilakukan diperoleh Basil bahwa kekerasar' permukaan meningkat cl=an 155,914diN dan meneapai keadaan optimal sebesar 289,8 .KFIN. Kekerasan optimal tersebut diperoleh pada kondisi suhu substrat 550°C dan waktu nitridasi 30 menitThe result of influence of nitriding time and substrat temperature variations of the surface hardness of low carbon steel nitrided by means of plasma glow discharge technique are presented in this paper. The result are the changing of crystal structures and the changing of surface hardness. In this research, all experiments were carried out at the optimum plasma density conditions. -This- conditions are achieved at pressure 1 torr, nitrogen gas flow - = 0,15 liter per minutes, electrode distance = 3 cm and radio frequency voltage = 240 Volt. The time and substrat temperature nitriding are respectively: 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 40 minutes, 50 minutes, 60 minutes, and 120 minutes, and 450°C, 500°C, 550°C, dan 600°C. From the experiment done, it's found that the optimum hardness of surface is 289,8 KHN and this was achieved at time = 30 minutes and temperature 550°C, whereas the surface hardness before nitriding is 155,9 ICHN
