Abstract

A government effort for activating Family Planning (FP) program in Sukoharjo District could reduce a fertility rate from 4.3 in year 1980 to 1.5 in year 2000. This success was because of using the Non Long-Term Contraception Method (Non LTCM) that showed by a high dropout number. The government program to increase the use of Long-Term Contraception Method (LTCM) did not provide an optimal result in which it was showed by choosing Non LTCM especially injection contraception. On the other side, a user of LTCM had been decreasing in the past five years especially for IUD contraception method. Therefore, this research question was: “Was its condition influenced by the factors of characteristics and a mother’s perception towards Family Planning services?” Aim of this research was to identify relationship between the factors of age, parity, educational level, demand, cost, quality, access to FP services, perception towards IUD, and husband’s support and the use of IUD. Beside that, it was to analyze the most influenced factor towards the use of IUD. This research used the primary data of year 2007 using cross sectional approach. Number of sample was 379 persons who were 20-49 years of age, got married, had one child or more, and used modern contraception method less than one year. Data were analyzed using the method of univariate, bivariate (Chi-Square test), and multivariate (Logistic Regression). The result of this research shows that the factors, which have significant relationship with the use of IUD, are age, parity, demand, cost, quality, access to FP services, perception towards IUD, and husband’s support. The factor of educational level does not have significant relationship with the use of IUD. Perception towards IUD is the most influenced factor towards the use of IUD.
