Abstract
Background: Polyphenols in Phaleria macrocarpa (Mahkota Dewa) which stimulate Interferon- production in some immunocyt population can increase Cytotoxic T-Lymphocyt (CTL) and Natural Killer Cell (NK-Cell) activity; which can be recognized from apoptotic index as a response to malignant cells and resistancy of clinically tumor development which can be measure from tumor growth diameter. Objective: To prove the difference of apoptotic index and tumor diameter size and analyze the correlation between apoptotic index and tumor diameter size. Material and method: A randomized post test only control group design on 20 C3H-mice were divided into 4 treatment groups. The first group is control group, group-1 was administered with 0,035mg Phaleria macrocarpa/day, group-2: 0,0715mg/day, group-3: 0,14mg/day. After complete tumor cell inoculation, diameter size of tumor before-treatment was measured. All of group were treated for 3 weeks, then measured before and after-treatment tumor diameter size and evaluate the tumor apoptotic index. A One Way ANOVA Test is used to evaluate the difference of before-and-after tumor diameter size and tumor apoptotic index. Pearson’s Correlation test was performed to analyze the correlation between tumor apoptotic index and tumor diameter size. Result: There is significantly difference of tumor size among groups, and significantly negative correlation (p<0,001) between tumor apoptotic index and tumor diameter size, with correlation coefficient -0,773. Conclusion: The reduction of tumor was start at 0,035mg/day administration of Phaleria macrocarpa extract, and there is significantly negative correlation between tumor apoptotic index and tumor diameter size. Key words : Phaleria macrocarpa, apoptotic index, tumor diameter, adenocarcinoma mammae
