Abstract

Background : Infection risk on clean contaminated operation is 7-20%. Mesh aplication on herniorrhaphy decrease the reccurence, but increase risk of infection on clean contaminated operation. The objective of this study was to know the difference of infection grade and bacterial count among monofilament and multifilament mesh aplications and pure tissue repair. Method : A laboratory experimental study on wistar mice was done. Sample was divided into Control group (K) : applied pure tissue repair, P1 : applied monofilament mesh, P2 : applied multifilament mesh. Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney tests were applied on infection grade variable. One Way Anova and Boferroni tests were applied on bacterial count variable. Result : There were no significant differences on infection grade among the three groups (p=0,427). Mann-Whitney test result showed no significant difference between K(grade 0 = 4; grade 1 = 2) and P1(grade 0 = 4; grade 1 = 2) (p=1,000), K and P2(grade 0 = 2; grade 1 = 4) (p=0,269), P1 and P2(p=0,269). There were significant differences on bacterial count among groups (p=0,011). Bonferroni test result showed no significant difference between K(13.911±743,39) and P1(14.106±562,50) (p=0,985). But there were significant differences between K and P2(15.144±628,07) (p=0,015), and P1 and P2 (p=0,043). Conclusion : There is no significant difference on bacterial count and grade of infection on monofilament mesh application compare with pure tissue repair. There is significant difference between multifilament mesh aplication and both monofilament aplication and pure tissue repair. There is no significant difference on infection grade (Hulton) among groups. Key words : mesh, clean contaminated operation, herniorrhaphy.
