PENGARUH FAKTOR-FAKTOR KEPENDUDUKAN TERHADAP PERTUMBUHAN EKONOMI DI KABUPATEN PEMALANG

Abstract

Pemalang is one of regencies in Central Java province which have level of economic growth below average economic growth rate among 35 districts in Central Java province, so according to the typology criteria, it is included in relatively disadvantaged area. Meanwhile, Pemalang in recent years experienced an increase in the total of population, flucutation of labor, and also high rate on the dependency ratio. Economic growth is not only influenced by economic factors, some previous studies showed the influence of non-economic factors, one of which is the demographic factor. The purpose of this study is to analyize how the influence of population growth, labor and the dependency ratio on economic growth in Pemalang. The method used in this study is Ordinary Least Square (OLS). The data used are time series from 1993 to 2009. Regression analysis showed that the population growth variable is negative and significant impact on economic growth in Pemalang. Labor variable has positive but not significant impact on economic growth in Pemalang. While the variable dependency ratio is significant and negative impact on economic growth in Pemalang.
