Abstract

This research is based on a lack of understanding and lack of respect for cultural values differences between Tlogowero society and the LDII members in Tlogowero. This gives rise to stereotypes, prejudices, and the dichotomy in group-out group. Stereotypes and prejudices where related to exclusivity issuess of LDII mosques and how they label society outside LDII as infidels. The empirical reality from mindlessness communication was arson case of LDII mosque as the conflict culmination point. This research aims to describe communication experience by the individual’s involved in the conflict, creating aspects of mindlessness communication, and points to form mindfull communication. This research uses The Dialogical Ethics Theory, The Uncertainty Reduction Theory, and The Triangular Theory of Conflicts. This research approach is qualitative and descriptive case study method with the logic of pairing pattern analysis techniques through two general strategies: proposition (dysfunctional behavior, openness-inclusive attitude, and I-Thou relationship) and descriptive terms (stereotypes, prejudices, the dichotomy in group and out group, conflict, and mediation). The finding of research showed that the dysfunctional behaviors (stereotypes, prejudices, the dichotomy in group and out group), still exists. The findings of research also suggests that mediation takes place is not easy. However, with consideration and advice from various parties, eventually both parties accept the results of the agreement for broader advantages. The research concluded that the stereotypes, prejudices, the dichotomy in group and out group, is a dysfunctional behavior at the level of mindlessness communication which lead to trigger a more severe intercultural conflict. In addition, an open and inclusive attitude is very important in understanding the plurality and diversity. Finally, the I-Thou relationship is a kind of ideal communication. Key words: Stereotypes, prejudices, the dichotomy in group and out group, conflict, and mediation.
